The IMF mission met the Parliamentary Budget Office

On 21 april, 2023, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) fiscal transparency evaluations mission held a working meeting with the representatives of the PBO.

The mission was interested in the role of the PBO in strengthening parliamentary oversight and promoting the country's fiscal transparency. During the meeting, the performance, achievements and current activities of the PBO were discussed in detail, in areas of budget analysis, macroeconomic analysis and financial impact assessment of draft laws. The issue of monitoring compliance with the fiscal rules was highlighted, which the PBO has been conducting since 2020 (see the reports). The self-assessment report prepared by the PBO was also discussed.

Additionally, the steps taken by the PBO to ensure transparency and accessibility for citizens were discussed, in particular, the infographics used to present the budget analysis results, the guidelines, that give specific examples and are written in plain language for citizens, the supporting video for the financial impact assessment of the draft law and others.

The IMF mission will develop a report reflecting the evaluation of fiscal transparency according to various indicators. The evaluation report will also reflect the recommendations issued by the mission.

The IMF last evaluated Georgia's fiscal transparency in 2017 and published the report.
